Lycidas by John Milton

Edward King died at sea in 1637 when the ship he was aboard hit a rock off the coast of Wales. His peer at Cambridge, John Milton and others were asked to eulogize the youth in poems. King was known to be a creative poet himself. Milton wrote, "Lycidas". This poem is considered one of the greatest in the English language. Milton is best known for his epic poem, Paradise Lost, and his prose such as, Areopagitica.

At my father's funeral in February of this year I used Milton's poem, "Time". I had committed the short poem to memory years ago. I felt in 2018 I needed to add another Milton poem to memory and wanted a more grand choice. I chose to commit "Lycidas" to. memory. The recitation is from my favorite place on planet earth, Twin Lakes, Colorado.
